Though Ramen of various kinds has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, I reached the pinnacle of my Ramen involvement in the late 1980s during my eminently-quotable "young male teenage years." My friends and I often partook of our favourite noodley delight, and in order to keep things new and exciting we would try out all kinds of wacky Ramen variations.
Also around this time, Top Ramen released their new Chicken Sesame flavour, with which I was particularly taken. One afternoon while looking to feed myself and two friends I had an epiphany on the order of Gene Wilder's famous scene in Young Frankenstein:
Change the poles from plus to minus, and from minus to plus! With a flick of my wrist and a splash (well, a veritable downpour) of water into a pot, I combined:
One (1) package of Chicken flavour Top Ramen One (1) package of Beef flavour Top Ramen One (1) package of Oriental flavour Top Ramen One (1) package of Chicken Sesame flavour Top RamenNever in my life had I seen such a gigantic, tremendous mound of Top Ramen all in one place. One might think it would be intimidating, and yet I found the scent of the combined seasoning packets wafting from the mound so tantalizingly delicious that any sense of fear I might have had flew right out the window (so to speak.)
My friends and I filled our bowls and ate, and as we ate and sat before the seething mass of noodles we grew increasingly convinced that we were truly on to something. Needing a name for our latest creation, we (oh so wittily!) truncated, concatenated, and abbreviated the slew of involved flavour packets to create the now-famous "Bickiental Sesame". Other subsequently-invented tempting variations include "Chork" (Chicken and Pork) and "Cheef" (Chicken and Beef.)
We recommend that you try it. Not for the faint of heart (or small of stomach).
